We lowered prices on almost all of our items in Aisle 1-the Natural and International products aisle! We renegotiated our contract with our supplier for the foods found in this section and are happy to pass the savings along to you!  The foods in this aisle include all Asian, Mexican, gluten-free, kosher and more.

Our wine department has expanded to include thirty new wines from Argentina, Italy, and Portugal. As always, if you buy 6 or more bottles of wine, we’ll give you a 10% discount.

Starting today, the salad mix from local McFarland business, Vitruvian Farms, is available on our salad bar. Grown in their hand-built greenhouses, this nutrient-rich mix is hand-grown and picked at the optimal time for picking. Vitruvian Farms was started by a group of recent UW graduates whose focus is to bring locally-grown, sustainable and organic farming products to fruition. Once again this year, we are proud supporters of the Wisconsin Film Festival.  This year’s festival is from Wednesday, April 18 and runs through the Sunday, April 22.  Tickets are on sale now.  Make sure you get yours by going to their website, www.wisconsinfilmfestival.com, to place your order.  Movies sell out fast so make sure to place your orders soon.

On April 23rd, we will provide breakfast to the All-Campus Party’s “Breakfast with Bucky.” Our biggest donation of the year, we will supply students with bagels, fresh-ground peanut butter, yogurt, juice and more.  It’s our third year of doing this fun event and we are looking forward to it this year.

We are continuing to expand our cooking class schedule.  For a nominal class fee, you will learn new cooking methods and techniques, new menus, taste new wines and have fun in a small group setting.  All of our classes are taught by our executive chef, Andy Nighbor.  Check out our class schedule on our website and sign up online to reserve your spot.  There is a class for everyone.

The burgers we will be serving will be from our new distributor who is supplying our meat case with a hamburger that contains no pink slime!

Up until last week, we purchased our beef from Cargill.   Cargill had assured us that  they do not use ammonium hydroxide, the natural compound or filler which causes lean finely textured beef, otherwise known as “pink slime.”  However, there has been some concern that Cargill adds another filler to take its place.

Although these fillers are USDA approved for human consumption, we decided that consumer safety and concern far outweigh this government stamp of approval.  Therefore, we have changed our meat distributor and will be receiving meat containing no fillers as early as next week.

We kicked off the schedule on Tuesday night with a Valentine’s Day Demo Cooking Class.  Couples were treated to a three course meal complete with wine and gift bags.  Our second floor event room was transformed into a restaurant setting that featured tables for two. VIP seating was also available right in front of the cooktop.

Guests dined on a shrimp salsa appetizer, a salad with a balsamic dressing and a wedge of Hook’s Blue Cheese before being served their entree.  The main course consisted of a grilled, seared tenderloin which was finished off in the oven and then drizzled with a demi glaze sauce.  It was served with roasted asparagus and a crab risotto.  The final course was a decadent, creamy creme brulee!  All courses were served with red or white wine.

Chef Andy took the guests step-by-step through the menu and showed how easy it can be to create a delicious meal.  The night ended with some mingling and a gift bag for each couple.
