Students find food scraps to be mutually beneficial

Madison, WI – This growing season, a group of UW-Madison students is bringing new meaning to the phrase “food chain.”

Members of the F.H. King Students for Sustainable Agriculture haul food scraps by bicycle from Fresh Madison Market to turn it into compost for their garden off Lake Mendota Drive, north of University Hospital.

“Food is wasted every day and we’re turning it into good food by using it instead of having it go into the landfill,” said F.H. King program director Mark Sandberg.
