Hurricane Irma and Your Produce

Back to back hurricanes in the Gulf have been heartbreaking to watch.  Lives have been changed forever.  It may be years before we know the full economic impact to the region.  Even though we are miles away, it’s likely you will notice the effects of the storms in our produce section.  It is our commitment to you to always have fresh produce.  The growers we work with share those values, and will never deliver fruit that has been damaged, rolling around on the ground, or simply not good quality.
One of our favorite Florida growers, Brooks Tropical’s, has reported that entire vines of passion fruit were wiped out and they will not be delivering any until 2018.  80% of their avocado groves have lost their fruit, and trees were completely uprooted.  Guava is also gone for the season.
From grapefruit to dragon fruit, your friends at Fresh Madison Market are working the phones and routing delivery trucks to make sure that your favorite produce is always available.  There may be a minor interruption, or supplies may be a bit lower than you are used to, but we wanted you to know that our dedication to quality and freshness will never change.  If you have any questions or are curious when deliveries of your favorites will be coming in, please ask one of the managers in our store.
A tiny inconvenience of produce is small in comparison to the struggles fellow Americans in the Gulf States are facing.  If you haven’t already, we encourage you to donate to a charity that is doing the hard work of helping families there.  We show our best when we all work together.
