Pasta is part of a well-balanced diet. Current dietary guidance calls for up to 65% of daily calories to come from carbohydrates, such as pasta. Pasta gets a bad rap primarily for the carbohydrates pasta contains. The carbohydrates contained in pasta are an excellent source of complex carbohydrates, which provide a slow release of energy.

Angel Hair pasta is fine strands of pasta, best used with olive oil or butter sauces

Bow Tie (Farfalle) pasta looks like tiny bow ties (or butterflies (farfalle is Italian for butterflies)) this is best used with salads and mixes well with olive oil, butter or cheese

Elbow Macaroni pasta are c-shaped tube pasta, best use in salads, soups and baked dishes

Fettuccine pasta is a egg noodle that about a quarter of an inch.  This pasta goes best with creamy sauces, cheese or meat based sauces.

Penne pasta are small tube pasta cut diagonally. The best sauce to serve with Penne is a meat, vegetable, cream or meat based sauce.

Rotini are spiral pasta. This pasta works great in baked dishes or salads and paired with pesto or a tomato sauce.

Spaghetti is a thin long pasta. The best thing to serve spaghetti pasta with is pesto, tomato or a meat sauce.
