Update on Produce Crops Damaged by Irma

Here’s the latest information from our produce partners in Florida:  Hurricane Irma did unprecedented damage to property and crops earlier this month.  Florida oranges are plentiful and fared the best during the storm.  While production output is expected to drop as much as 35%, farmers on orange groves feel confident there will be plenty available for juice manufacturers and stores like ours.  Tangerines and Mandarines will also have about a 30% reduction.  It appears that grapefruit is the crop that was hardest hit.  While as much as 50% has been lost, this will probably only impact exports.  It’s expected there will be enough for the U.S. and Canada.  We learn more each day about the extent of the damage to crops, and are working hard to make sure you always have access to fresh produce.  It’s important to you, so it’s important to us.  We appreciate your patience and understanding if there is any disruption that is beyond our control.
