Wacky Weather and your Fruits and Veggies!

January 14, 2013

You have probably noticed some complaining out West about cold weather and people in shorts out East! The weird weather has 30 degree extremes in both directions – 30 degrees below normal on the West Coast and 30 degrees warmer on the East Coast.  In California and Arizona, temperatures dipped well below freezing over the weekend and are only hitting highs of a balmy 46 degrees in some of the low lying desert areas. While we would be thoroughly excited at temperatures this high in January (and were on Friday Jan. 11 when it did hit close to 50 degrees in some areas), freezing like this is bad news for fruit and vegetable growers out west.

Covering Citrus Trees Citrus Growers need to protect their trees from the bitter cold out west!

Citrus growers in Arizona rushed to protect trees and vegetable growers in California are doing what they can to save crops that usually head out to the Midwest to feed us in the winter.

We are changing our weekly special this week because of the weather, removing pea pods that were coming from the west coast and replacing them with fresh green beans. Make sure to check out all our specials this week by clicking this link! Also, don’t forget our weekly coupon – Pints of Kemps Milk for only $.59 each! Remember to print the coupon and bring it in.

Some big changes are happening this Friday Jan. 18th. We are adding several new wines to our selection including Argentinean, Chilean and South African wines. The entire wine section has been changed as well. We will have updates on what’s new via Pinterest, Facebook and Twitter during the week!
